Effective Teaching Sequence for Repertoire
Stephen Pierce
Among the many things to consider when teaching a piece are basic elements, such as playing the correct notes accurately, in time, and at an appropriate tempo. Helping students master technical challenges, guiding their understanding of stylistic considerations, and inspiring them to play in a way that is interpretatively convincing are also essential. Teachers often address all of these elements without considering that the order in which they address these elements is also important to achieve the most successful results.
