Clarification on the ARCT Keyboard Harmony Question for Melodic Improvisation

For the ARCT Keyboard Harmony exam, can you provide clarification on the question for melodic improvisation? It says, "...Students are asked to add a bass line for the given phrase, and bass notes at the cadences." So should the student have a bass line going on for the whole composition, or should the student stop playing bass notes after the first four measures, only playing bass notes at cadences?

The Keyboard Harmony specialist provided the following response:

The candidate should supply a bass line for the given phrase (in other words, for the first four measures), and after that, just bass notes at the cadences.
