I have a quick question about Modern Vocal Score. I had always felt that the bar lines should NOT go right through from the soprano staff to the bass staff. This is to allow room to print the words that are (should be) there to be sung. Of course the beginning bar line with the brace and the double bar line at the end should extend the entire length. Both the theory syllabus and Sarnecki's lesson books show all the bar lines extending right from top to bottom. In the past (Longer ago than I care to think!) I remember learning that the bar lines should be short in order to accommodate the text. So really I was wondering why this no longer seems to be the case?
