Ask an Examiner

Performing an Incomplete Examination

I have a student who is scheduled to perform his Level 5 practical piano in about 2 weeks. He is not as prepared as I had expected, so he has only part of his exam ready to perform. He is prepared for technique, one study, and pieces from Lists B and C. Will he be allowed to try this examination, as incomplete as it is?

Yes, the student may try the examination, and receive commentary for the parts of the examination which are prepared.

It may be in the student's interest for the Academic Office to notify the examiner in advance. This will save the student having to explain during the examination, and will assist the examiner. Alternately, please note on the Program Form that candidate will be performing Technical Tests, one Etude, and List B and List C Repertoire. You may wish to consider the student reviewing the Ear Tests and Sight Reading, and trying these as well, for the experience, and to assist in preparing for an examination in the future.

Please note that for any mark under 50, commentary will be included, but marks ordinarily will not.

We wish your student the very best in ongoing musical endeavours, and we hope that your student will continue to find The Royal Conservatory Certificate Program an important component of their musical development.
