Classroom Management Online
John Scully
Manager, Learning Strategies
When teaching in an online environment, there are many aspects of classroom management that are similar to an in-person group session. You need to keep students engaged and actively learning while maintaining order within the class. There are also aspects of group class management in online environments that are different and need special consideration, e.g., how to encourage and keep track of everyone's participation when you cannot see all their faces. Please view this video to hear some suggested approaches for managing your online classroom including having your students contribute to a set of class ground rules. These types of student contributions can help to expand investment in learning and increase their class participation. There is an activity in this section to have you contribute to a set of ground rules for our class community.
