Cultivating Posture for Singing
Victoria Holland
Posture is one of the most important concepts for our students to understand and master. It is essential to vocal development and will help to ensure a lifetime of healthy singing. For singers, the body is the instrument. Proper alignment and stability of the body have an enormous impact on the healthy functioning of the vocal mechanism and breath physiology. Practice makes permanent. Each time a student practices or performs, they are developing postural habits. It is our task, as teachers, to successfully cultivate healthy, supportive posture habits in our students and to monitor key aspects of posture that must be developed outside of the voice studio.
