Additional Information
- Although the Violin Syllabus, 2021 Edition does not go into effect until September 1, 2021, the Violin Series, 2021 Edition books will be available from July 2021. Students will have the option of performing Repertoire selections or Etudes and Orchestral Excerpts drawn from the Violin Series, 2021 Edition through July and August 2021, even if they are not listed in the Violin Syllabus, 2013 Edition.
- A crossover period for Repertoire, Etudes, and Orchestral Excerpts will be in effect from September 1, 2021 through to August 31, 2022. Students may perform Repertoire selections, Etudes, and Orchestral Excerpts from either the 2013 or 2021 Syllabus (or a combination of both) for any examination during the crossover period.
- There will be no crossover period for Technical Tests. The requirements in the 2021 Syllabus will become effective as of September 1, 2021 at all levels. Students already preparing using the 2013 Syllabus requirements will find they are able to transition easily into the new requirements as listed in the 2021 Syllabus.
- There will be no crossover period for Ear Tests in Preparatory through Level 8 (Elementary and Intermediate levels). The new requirements in the 2021 Syllabus will become effective as of September 1, 2021. The changes to the Ear Tests at the lower Elementary and Intermediate levels have been designed to support student success.
- There will be a crossover period for Ear Tests in Levels 9 and 10 (Advanced levels) only. Students will be given the opportunity to choose to be examined under either the 2013 or 2021 Syllabus requirements from
September 1, 2021 until August 31, 2022. Some students and teachers may benefit from the additional time to adjust to the new examination elements at these levels.
- There will be no crossover period for Sight Reading. Students are teachers are advised to review the Violin Syllabus, 2021 Edition to become familiar with the revised Sight Reading requirements.
